Alex Leibold MS, RD, LD & Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor
Congratulations Alex Leibold MS, RD, LD on earning the Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor designation!
We are so proud of all the hard work and dedication Alex has put into earning this designation. For those who do not know, the Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor designation requires self study work, course work, an examination, and supervision. The designation is earned through Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole who are the authors of Intuitive Eating and the original Intuitive Eating professionals. Although many practice from an Intuitive Eating lens, Alex has specifically been trained by the professionals who designed that very lens.
In addition to now being a certified intuitive eating counselor, Alex has 5 years of eating disorder specific experience and is currently working on completing her Certified Eating Disorder Specialist Certification through iaedp (the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals). Alex is licensed in Texas, New York, New Jersey, and Florida and can provide intuitive eating counseling nationally via Telehealth. If you are interested in setting up an appointment with Alex, please visit our scheduling page.
Body positivity was created to address the way body image influences mental health and overall well-being. However, there are a few problems with body positivity. According to Psychologist Susan Albers, Psy.D., “body positivity is a subset of toxic positivity. Some feel that it blames people for how they feel based on their mindset. It can also push people into trying to feel something that they don’t.” Although the intentions behind body positivity is admirable, unconditionally loving one’s body can seem unrealistic, because many people report being unhappy about themselves. Another criticism of body positivity is that it can be non-inclusive to people of color, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ communities. Body images that are often portrayed in body-positive messages still conform to a specific beauty ideal.
